An elderly woman, Mrs Irene Omotayo Adejoro, will soon have a new house to her name in Ibadan, Oyo State following the intervention by the Splash FM popular broadcaster and On Air Personality , Edmund Obilo, who has helped her reach the local authority and the general public for aid.
Half of the former residence of Mrs Adejoro had been demolished due to the erosion control project by the erstwhile local government chairmen of the Oluyole area causing her lots of distress.
Following her cry for help, amplified by Obilo, local authorities in response allocated a piece of land to her on the 23rd of September, 2023, including the donation of one thousand five hundred (1,500) blocks to be used in laying the foundation of a befitting new house.
According to reports the grandma had been visiting Obilo to report the wide water channel project which was supposed to be beneficial to all, but which spared the houses of her neighbours who the old woman claimed were politically affiliated to the then ruling party.
She said the project had left her residence to suffer abandonment and damage in the course of constant expansion of that channel.
Last on October 1, 2023, while Nigeria was celebrating its 63rd Independence anniversary, Grandma (a moniker given to her by the journalist), Obilo, the Local Government Chairman of Oluyole Area, Honorable Settle Olaide Popoola, were at the allocated site, supervising the new building foundation around Oluyole, Idi Ayunre axis.
Elated by the building of another house in a better area after the unsuitable, old, and mosquito-infested one was destroyed, Mrs Adejoro showered prayers on the Ibadan On-Air Personality for his good works and effective voice.
Obilo is known as a reputable journalist who would not withstand the utter negligence of the state officials and the infringement of the old citizen’s rights!
She also thanked Hon Settle Popoola, for yielding to the call of the popular Ibadan journalist for her cry.
Obilo thanked concerned Nigerians who had sent money to the account which Splash FM had opened for ‘Grandma’ and to which Grandma remains the sole signatory. He also called on the general public to contribute to the completion of the house.
