As the use of digital communication technologies become mainstream, citizens, nonprofits and civil society organisations have found an ally in the internet, social media, mobile phones and other technologies that allow case of distribution of information at a relatively low cost.

These internet-based platforms are increasingly used to promote dialogue about pertinent social issues, to gauge the view of the public about local and national policy; to mobilize citizens for protect and to generate resources for good causes. While these platforms can be used as a force for good, they are also subject to censorship, intimidation, and cyber attacks.

Awareness of the inherent risks in the use of digital platforms and being prepared to combat adverse use is a necessity in today’s world of government surveillance, cyber attacks, data theft and privacy invasion.

This SafeOnline guide is designed to provide such digital security awareness in an easy to understand and actionable format. It highlights information critical to managing and securing one’s platforms in the digital space.
