Bloomberg trains Nigerian journalists

By Joe Agbro

Selected  Nigerian journalists are getting set to participate  in the third batch of the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa Executive Training Program beginning  in Lagos on April 11.

The training is meant to increase the number of mid-career business and financial journalists in Nigerian via six study blocks spanning April and September 2016. It holds at the Protea Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Initially launched in February 2014 and focusing on Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa is a Pan-African program, which according to organisers aim ‘to build media capacity, convene international leaders and improve access to information in order to advance transparency, accountability and governance on the continent.’

The program is made possible through the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Ford Foundation is being organised in partnership with Lagos Business School, University of Lagos, Strathmore business School, University of Nairobi, Gordon Institute of Business Science and Rhodes University.

According to Michael Bloomberg, founder Bloomberg L.P and 108th Mayor of New York City: “Reliable data and financial analysis bring transparency to markets and promote sound economic development – and they can help keep Africa growing and creating opportunity.”

“The initiative will provide cross disciplinary education programs and mid-career fellowships to increase the number of highly-trained business and financial journalists, convene pan-African forums to examine worldwide media best practices and support research to stimulate media innovations,” the organisers stated.
