The immediate past editor of TheCable Online newspaper, Fisayo Soyombo has joined the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) as Editor.
He announced his new job on his facebook wall on Monday, June 5.
joining ICIR means its ‘payback time’; it is in fact a ‘homecoming’ for me. And although the move wasn’t all that straightforward from scratch, it was inevitable, in the end, that this is where I’ve ended up,” he stated.
“On a personal note, it’s a job that takes me one big step closer to investigative reporting —getting more frequently involved in it myself and also helping my team do the same.
“On an organisational scale, I am under no illusions: there is a lot of work to do here. My dreams for ICIR are massive and only hard, thorough work can bring them to fruition. I am not sure if I will realise them but I am VERY SURE I will try; I will fight. My overriding workplace principle hasn’t changed one bit: Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might (Eccl 9:10).”
The 2009 Animal Science graduate of the University of Ibadan began hhis professional media career in 2004, when, as a 100 level student, he began writing for The Guardian.
He had a two-year stint spanning online platforms with South African Network Africa; Minnesota, United States-based AfricanOutlook; California, US-based THEWILL and pan-African online business agency, VENTURES AFRICA.
He won the Newcomer of the Year category of the 2016 Free Press awards, which held in The Hague, Netherlands. In 2013 he was the recipient of the Deutsche Welle/Orange Magazine Global Fellowship for Young Journalists.
Furthermore, he was adjudged the Journalist of the Year (Business and Economy Reporting) in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Awards.
ICIR was founded by Dayo Aiyetan, formerly of TELL Magazine
