The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) has held a 3-day virtual training to commence the AI and Tech Accountability Reporting Fellowship by the Nigeria AI Collective.
This intensive training with journalists, researchers and technology experts featured expert-led and interactive sessions built around three core thematic areas: Foundations of AI Systems, Power, Policy, Disruption & Storytelling in the Age of AI and Driving Narratives in the Age of AI and Emerging Tech.
Following the training, a selected group of fellows will enter a three-month reporting and publication phase during which they will receive editorial guidance, mentorship, and funding support to produce in-depth stories on AI and tech accountability.
CJID says it is thrilled to implement this fellowship, which is an integral part of our broader commitment to strengthening the capacity of journalists, researchers, and media practitioners to report effectively on the complexities of artificial intelligence (AI) and to promote greater tech accountability across the African media space.
A participant in the training, Abimbola Oluwakemi of The Punch, said it was insightful, rich, engaging and eye-opening.
“I’m grateful for the experience and the aftermath. Time well spent.”
Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, Caleb University, Lagos Dr Solomon Oyeleye said “it is exciting to join this cohort, learning and unlearning what I know about AI for use in research and the field of journalism which is one of the core areas of my scholarship.”
