The Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University (ACJOAU) has inducted new members of the association.
The annual ceremony held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, is to usher in a new set of members who will carry on the legacy of the association.
A new website of the organisation https://acjoau.com/ was also launched at the ceremony.
In her speech, the President, Alofe Faith urged the new members to always be truthful, credible and at all times be accountable in performing their duties as campus reporters within and outside the university community.
Alofe explained that the current administration believed it will be good for the association as the umbrella body of all registered news agencies on campus to have its own website for easy access to news, fact-checking of news publications and also avail her members the opportunity to work on investigative reports.
She appreciated the executive council members, Media and Career Development Network, owned and managed by Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin who fully supported taking up the task of setting up the website making it possible to launch it.
One of the guest speakers, Mr Ifedayo Ogunyemi who is a senior reporter in Nigerian Tribune, spoke to the inductees on the concepts of solutions journalism and urged all participants to use their stories to make a positive change in society.
Ogunyemi, who launched the website noted its user-friendly features and urged members to use the platform effectively.
Hammed Oyegbade, Osun State Correspondent took the inductees on what journalism entails, the roles of campus journalist and their ability to use their platforms to hold personalities and organizations accountable.
The erstwhile Chairman Guild of Editors of the Association, Peter Oyebamiji shared his experience as a campus reporter and spoke to the inductees on practical ways to carry out their duties as campus reporters.
The program ended with the new inductees taking the oath and giving out certificates to them.
