Here are some media awards and prizes closing this July for journalists to put in for. Some of these media awards close by the end of this week.

1. 2024 Rory Peck Award 

The Rory Peck Awards recognises the talent and dedication of freelance journalists and filmmakers working in news and current affairs worldwide. It is one of the awards that recognises freelance media professionals’ work globally for nearly 30 years.

Freelance journalists and filmmakers are invited to submit entries for the 2024 Rory Peck Awards before 11.59 pm BST on Friday, July 5, 2024.

2024 Association for International Broadcasting Awards (AIBs Awards)

 Broadcast journalists who have eligible productions first aired or published between July 1, 2023 and June 30 2024 can apply for this edition of the annual award. 

Presented annually the award recognises the world’s best journalism and factual productions across video, audio, and digital platforms.

All entries for the AIBs must be submitted before the deadline of July 5, 2024.

European Journalism Centre (EJC) Climate Journalism Award.

The European Journalism Centre, in partnership with the Google News Initiative, is still accepting applications for the second edition of its climate journalism award.

The award recognises the efforts of media professionals in fighting threats to climate action. With submission in five categories: Data-driven visualisation, Fighting climate misinformation, Pinpoint award for investigations, Storytelling & solutions and Emerging talent.

 The award ceremony will take place at the News Impact Summit in Copenhagen on 10 October 2024. The call which has been open since June 5 ends on July 5, 2024, at 17:00 CEST.

2024 African Fact-checking Awards

Journalists, journalism students, and professional fact-checkers across the continent can apply for the 2024 edition of the African Fact-Checking Awards.

The fact-check entries for the 2024 awards should conclude that a claim about an important topic, originating in or relevant to Africa, is either misleading or false and must have been first published or broadcast between July 1, 2023 and July 14, 2024.

The winners of the working journalist and professional fact-checker categories will each get a prize of US$3,000. The runners-up will receive $1,500. The winner of the student journalist category will be awarded $2,000, and the runner-up $1,000.

The deadline for entries for the African Fact-Checking Awards is July 14, 2024.

The Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism.

Professional journalists and teams of professional journalists of any nationality, with in-depth pieces that have been published or broadcast by media based in one of the 27 European Union (EU) countries can apply for the 2024 edition of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism

The Prize aims to recognise outstanding in-depth journalism that promotes or defends the core principles and values of the European Union such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, and human rights.

A cash prize of €20,000 will be awarded in October 2024. The deadline for applications is July 31, 2024.
