Nineteen female journalists have been inducted as Fellows of the ReportWomen! Female Reporters’ Leadership Programme, organized by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism.
They were inducted at the Fellowship Award Ceremony held on Tuesday, 5 February 2019 in Lagos where three of the fellows were awarded prizes.
Adejoke Fayemi (Ray Power, Kaduna) was the overall winner for the Leadership programme, while Ejiro Umukoro (Trend FM, Delta) and Enato Isukul (Niger Delta Television) were first and second runners-up respectively.
All three winners got a Laptop each, while Fayemi received N200,000 cash prize, Umukoro, N150,000 and Enato N100,000.
Other female journalists who graduated at the ceremony are QueenEsther Iroanusi of Premium Times, Goodness Adaoyiche, Pulse, Azeezat Olaoluwa, TVContinental, Opeoluwa Akintayo, Sweet Crude and Temitayo Ayetoro of Businessday, Wemimo Adewunmi, Naija Info, Funmi Ogundare, THISDAY.
Ruth Olurounbi ( Per Second News ), Yinka Olatubosun (THISDAY), Sharon Ijasan (TVC), Theodora Aidoo ( TTV, Ghana ) , Aiye Elebiyo-Edeni (News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ini John-Mekwa (Channels), Nneka Luke (Liberty TV & Radio ), Fidelia Agwuncha (TV360) and Stephanie Adams (Premium Times) were also inducted.
The goal of Reportwomen which was initiated in 2014 was to increase the quality and quantum of reports about girls and women in Nigeria
In 2016 FRLP was initiated with a pilot fellowship in 2017 with support from Free Press Unlimited (FPU) to address the poor ratio of women in leadership in newsrooms in the country. Fourteen Fellows completed programme in the first year.
