Nigerian journalists won five out of the seven awards at stake at the West Africa Journalists of the fifth edition of the West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) in Accra, Ghana on Friday.
Samad Uthman of the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, Nigeria who now works for Dataphyte, Nigeria also emerged as joint winner of the West Africa Journalists of the Year 2021 along with Kwetey Nartey from Ghana.
Samad, Investigative and Multimedia journalist was recently named on the shortlist of ten for the 2021 Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award.
Twenty-one finalists for the WAMECA award organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa, WAMECA to honour exemplary work, in-depth investigations and exceptional storytelling were selected from 711 entries by journalists in the region.
