Primary Responsibilities: The Communication and Media Manager will coordinate the media and communications department of YIAGA. He/she will ensure YIAGA’s programs and projects receives robust media coverage across the diverse traditional and new media platforms. He/she is tasked with coordinating project media activities in both traditional and social media platforms. He/she prepares and reviews press releases, tracks YIAGA media activities, coordinates media briefs and project media activities. Specifically, the role entails content development and management, editorial responsibility, public engagement and media monitoring role. The individual will be the custodian of YIAGA’s communications and social media strategy.
Key qualifications and skills
- The applicant should possess a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, English and social media or a relevant degree
- Minimum 5 years’ professional experience in a media and communications role
- Excellent communications skills, both written and spoken
- Knowledge of the latest trends in digital and social media for effective corporate communication and social media campaigns, including (ideally) online communities, search engine optimization and other digital marketing tools.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently and under pressure.
- Fluent in English
- Proven ability to design effective communication products and strategies.
- Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong knowledge in Information Technology (IT) and use of various Internet tools and social media platforms.
- Demonstrable success in developing and implementing integrated communication strategies to diverse audiences.
- Sound knowledge of local and international media landscape
- Self-motivated, good analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
