Samson Folarin, the Features Editor of the Weekend Punch, has been awarded a Chevening Scholarship for his postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
He will be studying Investigative Journalism at the City University of London for the current academic year. Folarin, who was the former Editor of PUNCH Metro, is among the 44 Chevening scholars for the year.
A graduate of Mass Communication from the prestigious University of Lagos, Folarin has been the recipient of several media awards.
He was awarded the Print Journalist of the Year at the Nigeria Media Merit Award in 2019, the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Journalism (Print) in 2019 and 2020, and the Investigative Reporter of the Year at the Nigeria Media Merit Award in 2018, 2020, and 2021.
He also won the Crime Writer of the Year at the Nigeria Media Niteout Awards in 2014 and the Lagos Reporting at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence in 2018.
Folarin and other scholars were hosted to a pre-departure ceremony on Wednesday by the Head of the British Mission in Lagos, Mr Jonny Baxter.
The embassy wished them well in their academic pursuits and future endeavors, as they aspire to be change-makers upon their return.
