Segun Odunayo speaks with staff of The Nation on the company’s 11th anniversary

Vintage Press Limited, publishers of The Newspapers has marked 11 years of the company’s existence with staff recalling memorable experiences of their stay in the organisation.

The staff who spoke with www.mediacareerng.org also suggested how to improve on the operations of the company which commenced publication on July 31, 2006.

The paper with the motto: Truth in defence of freedom has emerged as a top daily publication in the country with many awards won by staff and the company.

Arts Editor, Ozolua Uhakheme said: “My experience has been good, bad and ugly. There are times you expect something and you get nothing and there are times you expect nothing and get something, this makes it peculiar.”

“Here, you have the proper environment to work and be the best you can be at what you do, a testament to this is the awards won by reporters. The welfare of workers should however be improved upon”.

According to Photojournalist, Olusegun Raphael, who has been a staff for eight years “the experience has been wonderful, the management has done well, I will score them 80 in general.”

He noted that salaries and allowances have been paid consistently despite the economic recession, but said there was need to improve on information dissemination.

More departmental meetings he said should be held regularly.

The Advert Manager, Robinson Osirike said he has benefitted immensely from working in the company, noting that he has attended many sponsored seminars and training programmes.

In response to the threat of the digital media, he called for improved use of multimedia tools in the editorial and marketing operation of the company.

“The Nation has to go into multimedia; I believe this will attract us more customers” he said.

A staff of the Online department, David Lawal also appreciated the opportunities he has had to participate in local and international conferences but said the welfare of members of staff should be properly taken care of .
