Our interns are ‘learning and producing content’

We are on the third week of our internship programme with ten students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Nigeria Institute of Journalism, (NIJ), Lagos, Olabisi Onabanjo University, (OOU) Ago-Iwoye, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife and Covenant University, Otta.

More students from the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu will join us after their examination for our hybrid model including orientation, physical and virtual engagements, and assignments to work on, which will be published on and broadcast on our platforms and that of our media partners, attachment with interested organisations and provision of resources.

Our office has since become a typical newsroom and communication office where we discuss various issues and give assignments with deadlines based on the learning expectations submitted by the interns on resumption.

Among others, our interns have done the following:

*Attended and wrote published stories from the Journalism and Society Conversations on X by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ)

*Participated in the Focus Group Discussion on Misogyny and Tech-based Gender Violence in Nigeria by Journalists for Christ International Outreach supported by the World Association for Christian Communication.

*Participated in Focus Group Discussion on behalf of BONews

* Sat in as an observers at the Inequalities Fellowship by the African Centre for Development Journalism.

* Participated in the Cyber-Security training for staff of Human Rights Journalists Network.

* Attended and published a report on the Report Women’s House-to-House Chat Visit to The Guardian Newspaper by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ)

*Participated in publication launch and discussion at the office of Initiative for Social-Economic Development Communication (iNSDEC).

* Written published book reviews and other assigned reports on our website and that of our media partners.

Our Programme Manager, Dayo Emmanuel and Officer, Blessing Osemobor have been working hard to ensure the interns make the best of their stay with us with feedback on their assignments and other issues of interest.

We plan to assign more editorial and other communication assignments in the new week based on local and international opportunities offered by our partners.
