NIJ: Ogunleye hands over to Adefaye as Acting Provost

Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Lagos, Mr Gbemiga Ogunleye has handed over to the Editor-in-Chief of Vanguard Newspaper, Mr Gbenga Adefaye who resumes today as Acting Provost of the institution.

Adefaye was named as the Acting Provost on Monday by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Olusegun Osoba pending the appointment of a new Provost.

In a Facebook post on Monday after handing over to Adefaye,  Ogunleye, former Editor of The Punch titled “LEAVING BUT NOT PARTING!” wrote:

“ Today, after my tour of duty as the Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, I had the privilege, honour and grace of handing over the baton to a distinguished colleague and friend, Gbenga Adefaye.

“ It’s a grace I do not take for granted. Not many CEOs had that grace.

“ Adefaye, who has the double-barrel title of General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of Vanguard is a thorough-bred Journalist. He’s done nothing other than Journalism in the last three decades.

“ A two-term President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, he is one of the best of us.

“ I enjoyed the tremendous support of the stakeholders in our industry. I am canvassing the same support for my successor.

“Let the house rat tell the bush rat that NIJ continues to march forward!” said Ogunleye who took over as NIJ Provost on March 2, 2015.

Adefaye was a former two-term President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

He holds a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nnsuka and the University of Lagos respectively.

He was Editor of Vanguard from 1998- 2008 and Editor-in-Chief/ General Manager since 2008.
