Make 2014 count for your career

Every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every year and every decade of our lives matter. What we do and what we don’t do within the various time spans ultimately accounts for how our lives and careers turn out.
October 1 marks the beginning of last quarter of the year and it is a good time to come to realise that 2014 is winding up.
While you might have been conscious of the need to accomplish your media career goals during the year, now is the time to take proper stock of how well you have done and what you need to do to ensure that this year counts positively for you.
I am assuming that you had your career goals for 2014 outlined with timeliness to monitor your progress. If you did good but if not, it’s not too late to ensure that the year does not end like some past ones you wished you had taken some concrete steps to advance your career.
I confess that I am running behind schedule on a number of my career goals for the year. I am struggling hard to stay on course due to some things I have allowed to distract me. I have taken up some unplanned projects that could wait instead of more important ones on my year planner.

Notwithstanding, I am determined to ensure that in the last three months of this year, I accomplish most of my career resolutions for the year. Where there is a will, there is a way.
Circumstances may warrant altering your career goals for the year but what is important is that you ensure that you do what matters most to make the year count for you.
About two months ago, a colleague shared with me his vision of publishing a weekly Energy Newspaper, which he has been working on for years and was determined to accomplish the goal this year.
On Tuesday, I was very glad when I got three editions of the newspaper. His major career goal in 2014 has been realised.
If you are to accomplish one important project or take a decision that will make you feel fulfilled as a journalist this year what will it be? For me, it is to publish my book, Journalism of my life which should have been presented on my 50th birthday last May 9. It will be out this month; even if it’s the e-book version.
According to a Chinese proverb, the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago; the next best time to do so is now.
The rest of the year according to a pastor can still be the best of the year for you.
It’s not late to make 2014 a landmark year in your career.

Thanks for reading and sharing with me and other readers your major career plan for the rest of the year. I will be willing to work with you to accomplish the plan.
