Media owners in Nigeria have been urged to consider paying journalists’ salaries regularly to maintain the dignity of the profession.
This called was made in Abuja by Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, Editor-in-Chief, Vanguard Newspaper, who represented veteran journalist, and publisher, Vanguard Newspaper, Mr. Sam Amuka at a book launch, where he reiterated that the profession and journalists’ dignity are at stake if journalists’ are not regularly paid.
According to Adefaye, “No Successful businessman/woman if workers’ salaries are not being paid regularly. It is important to consider the fact.”
“As long as Journalism remains a decent profession, Ajibola is an example one should reckon with when we talk about media entrepreneur,” Adefayo stated.
Adefaye described the author, Mr. Isaq Ajibola, as “a hard working man who has done remarkably well for the media. Daily Trust where Ajibola worked for is a successful today.”
He encouraged everyone including journalists, media investors, mass communication students to read the book for knowledge
and experience.
Mr. Isaq Ajibola, the author of the book titled: ‘Journalism and Business: My Newspaper Odyssey’, said, insufficient materials to relate journalism and business for the subject matter inspired him to write the book.
Ajibola, a co-founder, Media Trust Limited, in his opening remark, said, one of the factors which also propelled him was also the success of the company from the scratch.
this gave me deep business insight combined with journalism using my experience as a case study,” he said.
He said his experience will be an inspiration to those who would be courageous enough to travel similar path.
