Interns of WigRadio.com and Media Career Development Network (MCDN) during an exchange programme at the WiGRadio studio in Alimosho, Lagos held a live programme to celebrate the International Day of the girl-child.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of MCDN, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin said roles should not be based on gender identity but on ability.
According to him, giving equal opportunities to all genders will bring out the best in everyone.
Executive Director of WigRadio.com, Mr. Olawale Perfect also said there should not be gender disparity in selecting roles for various segments and positions.
“If a girl is capable of the position of president or any role in any organisation be it a company or at the Student Union Government, she should be given the opportunity”
Interns who spoke during the live programme noted that girls’ rights shouldn’t be undermined but rather they should be given the opportunity and privilege to exhibit their talents as we now have girls that are inventors.
“Girls can also pave the way for a better future as we now have girls that are inventors of specific fields that have made life easier and have proven that girls can also lead and thrive in male-dominated sectors,” an intern, Victor Opeyemi said.
Interns of both organisations had in September met at the Media Career Development Network, Ogba, Lagos for the launch of the internship exchange programme.
