Citi has launched the 4th edition of its prestigious Citi Journalistic Excellence Awards in Nigeria. The 2013 competition is open to business journalists in all forms of media including print, television, wire services, radio and online.
Thisday reports that Citi Journalistic Excellence awards sends the winners to an elite seminar at Columbia University in New York City. The International Journalists Seminar is a special programme sponsored by Citi and administered by Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism.
For more than 30 years, the programme has served to improve the quality of business journalism in the developing world by exposing leading local journalists to the issues and people that drive the global economy.
In 2012, 24 journalists from Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Greece, Hong Kong, Kenya, Korea, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Nigeria, Peru, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Spain and Venezuela were selected for the programme which included meetings with leaders of the business community, government, media and academia.
In previous years, former New York Federal Reserve President William McDonough, former New York Federal President, Timothy Geithner, and Ambassador Felix Rohatyn, have spoken to the group, as have Columbia professors R. Glenn Hubbard, Jagdish Bhagwati, Joseph Stiglitz and Jeffrey Sachs.
Winners of the Citi Journalistic Excellence Awards will play a significant role in shaping their countries’ perceptions of the international business environment. Meeting with the eminent and thought-provoking speakers on the agenda should enhance their ability to interpret the global economy for their readers and viewers accordingly.
In 2012, Mr. Wole Famurewa of CNBC Africa and Ms. Ella-Marcelle Olamiju of The National Mirror were selected as winners from Nigeria.
The deadline for submission of entries for the 2013 edition of the competition is March 7, 2013.
