CJID set to hold West Africa Journalism Innovation Conference

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is set to host the inaugural West Africa Journalism Innovation Conference (WAJIC’23) in Abuja, Nigeria. 

The conference, with the theme “Accountability Journalism: Nurturing Innovation for a Sustainable Future,” aims to explore the vital intersection between accountability journalism and innovation in Africa. 

According to the CJID CEO, Mr Dapo Olorunyomi, the conference will feature workshops, expert panels, and in-depth discussions on media innovations and technological tools that can bolster journalism practices in the African region.

It aims to provide a platform for networking, collaboration, and meaningful connections that have the potential to revolutionise the journalism landscape in West Africa.

“We will hold significant discussions with diverse viewpoints from around Africa in an effort to get to the bottom of the financial problems plaguing the continent’s journalism. We are eager to investigate teamwork and novel approaches that uphold the values of accuracy, truthfulness, verification, and unwavering commitment to the public good”, Olorunyomi stated.

Scheduled to take place from July 24 to 26, 2023, WAJIC’23 anticipates attracting over 300 participants from diverse backgrounds, including media houses, academic institutions, technological experts, government institutions, and policymakers from across West Africa.

Meanwhile, the conference has received an overwhelming response, with 768 applications, according to theCJID.org
