RESOURCE OF THE WEEK

Getting funds to power investigation is the bane to the growth and expansion of many Investigative journalism outfits.  There are many leads to be pursued and many story ideas to be explore but the fund to do these is what is limiting many journalists and their media houses. In this resource by GIJN the techniques and hacks to “Fundraising for Investigative Journalism” is explored.

The key is to take the process like you would take an investigation and first research funding sources, then prepare your story, and write a compelling narrative that makes the reader understand the importance of your work — and the need to fund it.

Explore established grant opportunities from national, regional and international funding organisations, get to know them, know their mission and vision, their existing grantees if they are similar to your and perfect your pitch in clear and compelling proposals.
