Nigeria Health Watch (NHW) is intensifying its support for media organisations in Nigeria to adopt Solutions Journalism reporting in the country.

Under the Solutions Journalism Africa Initiative, it has assembled and trained the first cohort of Solutions Journalists in the country who are being supported to produce stories.

The participating media organisations are News Agency of Nigeria, Nigeria Info FM, Pulse Nigeria, THISDAY Newspapers, Leadership Newspapers, Daily Trust Newspapers, TalkHealth9ja, Sparkling FM Calabar, Freedom Radio Kano and The Republic.

“ It’s been quite insightful the different stories they have produced. Goes to prove that people are making efforts to address their local issues without waiting for solutions to fall from above,” Chibuike Alagboso of NHW  told West Africa Solutions Journalism Hub.

He said two of the stories have been accepted and profiled on the Solution Journalism Tracker and it is hoped that more will be accepted.

“ There will be other cohorts of newsrooms and as we want to have that critical mass of people involved in telling solutions stories. So we encourage media organisations interested to explore SoJo to reach out to us as we’ve started curating potential media organisations for the next cohort,” Alagboso said.

On September 29,  a SoJo 101 training session will be held for Osun State-based online media practitioners and their NUJ but it’s open to anyone interested to participate. Here’s link to register –  https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_CST8lvslQJaLwynIxIUrAg
